About this program

Explore Baja California Sur on this five day adventure from the Gulf of California to the Pacific Coast. RED Travel Mexico combines exhilerating whale watching and trip to Espiritu Santo Island.

Watch for breaching grey whales in Magdalena Bay, discover sand dunes and mangrove canals. While at Espiritu Santo Island, snorkel with seal lions and bask in paradise.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival to La Paz

Arrive to La Paz, gateway to Gulf of California, what Cousteau named “the world’s aquarium”. Your naturalist guide will meet you at your hotel and brief you on the adventure to come.

Day 2 – Magdalena Bay gray whales

Depart for Magdalena Bay to Puerto López Mateos, where you will head out on the water in search of the magnificent gray whales that arrive to these protected waters to mate and calve before heading back north to the Bering Sea. Head south, along the way exploring the mangrove canals, massive sand dunes and secluded beaches by skiff – not to mention the seabirds and marine mammals. Spend a comfortable night in a waterfront hotel

Day 3 – Gray whale observation in Puerto San Carlos and back to La Paz

In the morning head back out on the water to see more of the gray whales before heading back to La Paz in the afternoon. Take the evening to stroll around La Paz and enjoy one of the many fine restaurants.

Day 4 – Espíritu Santo Island

We will pick you up at your hotel early in the morning, and transport you to the marina. After boarding the boat, our guides will give you a small briefing about the trip to Espírtu Santo as we head out from the Bay of La Paz. After roughly 1.5 hours, we arrive at the sea lion colony for our first stop. You’ll have plenty of time to swim, snorkel and interact with the playful sea lions in the company of your guide. We then climb back on board to navigate around the island in search of a pristine beach where our hosts await with a scrumptious meal of fresh seafood (special needs and dietary restrictions will be taken into account). On the beach, guides will give a talk about the natural history of the island, plants and mangroves, and you’ll be able to ask all the questions you like. Relax, swim or take a nature hike before happy hour. We’ll share our most memorable moments before starting the trip back to La Paz, arriving around 5 p.m.

Day 5 – Departure

Enjoy a relaxed morning in La Paz and transfer to the airport to catch the flight back home.
