Itinerary

Day 1: Iquitos - Transfer to Jungle Lodge

Please arrive to Iquitos before 9:00 am today. Upon arrival to Iquitos you will be picked up at the airport or a hotel and transferred to the office. Make last minute arrangements and then head off to the port for a 3-hour speed boat ride on the Amazon River. Upon arrival to the jungle lodge, you will have time to get settled in and then enjoy a delicious traditional buffet lunch. Enjoy a fun afternoon boat trip to Lake Sapote where you can see heaps of different bird species such as parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguanas, partridges, pigeons, cormorants and horned screamers. Continue to Moena lagoon to see monkeys, squirrels and sloths, then watch the sunset over the forest before heading back to the lodge for dinner. Take an evening boat safari to see nocturnal animals such as caimans and birds.

Day 2: Amazon Jungle Activities

Rise early and have breakfast before heading out on a Leoncito Hike, where you can awe at the immense variety of flora around the lodge. Taste therapeutic water that is captured inside the vines of the Uncaria tomentosa plant (cat's claw) which is rumored to cure cancer and AIDS. Marvel at the giant Ceiba trees in the area and search for the pygmy marmoset, the world’s smallest monkey. If you’re lucky you’ll have the chance to see squirrel and tamarin monkeys. Listen for the noisy roar of the howler monkey that can be heard up to several kilometres away. Return to the lodge for lunch and then take a boat trip to the Purura and Corrientes lakes where you can go fishing. Try catching the famous carnivorous piranha. Search for the colourful Hoatzin bird among strangler vines and millions of jungle trees. Have dinner back at the lodge and then go out on another night hike in search of giant frogs and harmless tarantulas.

Day 3: Amazon Jungle Activities

Have an early breakfast before your morning boat trip to the secluded Lagoon Casha which depending on water levels can be a challenging destination. Walk or row in towards the lake, looking for different species of birds and monkeys. Enjoy lunch back at the lodge followed by an afternoon excursion to Lake Juanachi in canoes for a more close-up look at animals and monkeys. Return to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest.

Day 4: Amazon Jungle Activities

Have breakfast this morning and then embark on a 5-hour hike to see native flora and fauna in the vicinity. Have an outdoor picnic lunch amidst the pristine Amazon Jungle at Black Waters Creek and keep an eye out for small visitors. Visit the local village of San Juan de Yanayacu and mingle with the villagers, buy handicrafts made from seeds or vegetable ivory or start an impromptu soccer game. Have dinner back at the lodge and take your last nighttime canoe trip to soak up the sounds of the jungle and glimpse your last nocturnal animals.

Day 5: Amazon Jungle Activities & Return to Iquitas

Enjoy breakfast on the boat this morning while cruising along the Amazon River. Experience a magical moment of swimming alongside pink and gray river dolphins (no touching allowed). See the Victoria Regia, the world’s largest aquatic plant on your way back to the lodge. Have a buffet lunch and then hop back on the boat for a 3-hour ride back to Iquitos. You will be dropped off at a hotel or airport where your trip will come to an end. Please plan to fly out of Iquitos after 6pm.
