Quark Expeditions

Quark Expeditions

Quark Expeditions was forged from a North Pole voyage in 1991 from global travelers Lars Wiklander and Mike McDowell.

Since the beginning, Quark has achieved unimaginable firsts in polar exploration. Not only have they made Antarctica and the Arctic available to travelers from 50 countries, they’ve shared their passion for polar travel with thousands of keen explorers.

With a focus solely on polar adventures, Quark Expeditions are the experts in the regions and have attained the following exciting achievements, among many others:

* Northeast Passage – first tourism transit of the historic route across the Russian Arctic.

* First non-scientific visit to the emperor penguin rookeries

* First circumnavigation of Antarctica for commercial passengers was completed

* Made polar history by landing at Saunders Island in the South Sandwich Islands.

In addition to breaking barriers and records in polar travel, Quark Expeditions has strong Sustainability Initiatives. This includes the use of MGO (Marine Gas Oil) in all of their vessels. MGO burns clean and sustains a low emission factor.

Onboard, guests can rest easy knowing that Quark uses eco-friendly cabin amenities and laundry chemicals, as well as acid-free, recycled papers.

Quark is also a big supporter of Polar Bears International, an organization that is dedicated to the conservation of polar bears and their homes. Additionally, they are active supporters of other amazing organizations and projects such as Clean Up Svalbard, Underwater Bait Setter, The South Georgia Heritage Trust, and Penguin Lifelines.
