The perfect trip for first-time explorers to Antarctica, this itinerary is crafted to specifically highlight the jewels of the Antarctic Peninsula.
With comfortable, safe passage on one of Quark’s very own ice-strengthened vessels, travelers can look forward to a wealth of experience and knowledge.
Enjoy lectures from on-board experts and specialists, travelers will learn about the surrounding environment and wildlife, as well as history of the region. Witness playful seals, breaching whales and waddling penguins, as well as other wildlife that call the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula home.
Cruise through crackling sea ice on a Zodiac, watch penguins build their nests, and pass by towering icebergs, each one shaped by its voyage through the sea.
Climb to the summit of Danco Island and marvel at the stunning 360-degree views that will reward you at the top. Adventure is calling, will you answer?
Start your journey in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. Surrounded by the sea to the south and the mountains to the north, Ushuaia is a fantastic place to depart on your Antarctic adventure. Spend some time before the cruise visiting the Tierra del Fuego National Park, or exploring the city.
Embark late this afternoon and sail through the historic Beagle Channel. The channel transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago and is named after the ship that once carried Charles Darwin!
Prepare for sailing through the Drake Passage, which is often a rough sail! Hope for a smooth ride, but know that the Drake is unpredictable! Get to know your shipmates and the Expedition Team as they prepare you with safety briefings and some insight into the coming adventures!
Once you pass the Antarctic Convergence, your Antarctic adventure begins! Each expedition is totally unique because of the people on it, the weather and ice conditions, etc.
Each day, you will take Zodiac excursions from the ship to explore local bays, channels, and landing sites. Youll visit penguin rookeries, watch for humpback and minke whales, and search for a number of southern seal species, including the penguin-eater or leopard seal.
The Antarctic Peninsula’s mountains will enchant as you scramble up snowy pathways to vantage points offering you 360° views of your surroundings. One of these in particular, in Danco Island, gives you the chance to visit a penguin colony high up on a ridge.
Here, you’ll have the choice between hiking to the island’s summit or spending time sitting quietly on a pebbled beach, enjoying the antics of curious penguins.
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, participate in the Polar Plunge swim!
Amid the serene silence of Antarctica, noisy interludes become indelible memories, such as penguins squabbling over prized pebbles, or the boom and crack of a calving glacier in Neko Harbour. Each day will be different, having been carefully crafted by your Expedition Team to entertain and educate you about this wonderful part of the world.
Begin your journey back through the Drake Passage. Spend time on the deck, watching for seabirds and scouting for whales, enjoy presentations by your Expedition Team, or simply relax and reminisce about your experiences with your shipmates and new friends!
You will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning, which allows you to continue your adventure on land or catch your flights home.
