Here is a family-friendly action-packed adventure through the rich, green jungles of Borneo. Visit colourful villages, rushing rivers and take in the breathtaking mountain views.
Intrepid family travellers will have the chance to meet local indigenous people, relax in the hot springs and observe orangutans at Sepilok Sanctuary.
Immerse your family in the culture and discover all of the adventures Borneo has to offer on this 11-day tour.
Please note: The minimum age for this tour is 5 years old.
Welcome to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, a place where ancient traditions and exotic wildlife thrive. Choose to visit the Monsopiad Cultural Village to tour the mystical House of Skulls and learn about ancient legends. The nearby islands are great for swimming and snorkelling. Notes: If you plan to arrive earlier, this arrival transfer can only be offered in conjunction with pre-tour accommodation booked through Intrepid.
Get a taste of Borneo's mountain life heading into Kinabalu National Park, home to Borneo's highest peak Mt Kinabalu. Hit walking trails, explore waterfalls and enjoy a relaxing soak in the thermal pools at Poring Hot Springs. Perhaps visit a butterfly farm or take to the treetops on a canopy walk.
Today we head to Poring Hot Springs. Warm sulphur water is piped into several open-air Japanese-style baths at Poring Hot Springs, which are said to have curative properties for the skin.
A local homestay provides the opportunity to interact with villagers, learn about their unique way of life and how they contribute to the preservation of Borneo's ecosystem. Spend a night camping in the jungle, spotting wildlife such as macaques, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and perhaps even wild orangutans.
Today we return to a local Malay village where we're invited into the lives and homes of the local people.
Visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary to see these cheeky creatures feeding and playing. The following day, meet the residents of the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre where orphaned orangutans are cared for before being released back into the wild. Take a walk along jungle trails and try to spot these 'men of the forest' in their natural habitat.
Today, after breakfast we visit The Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Note: Accommodation at Manukan is on a twin share basis. Some chalets have one twin share room with ensuite bathroom while others have 2 bedroom chalets with a lounge room. These chalets have 1 bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and the other bedroom’s bathroom is located off the lounge room. Due to the limited chalets on Manukan Island we are not always able to provide exactly the same room for each passenger, but we always try to allocate rooms as fairly as possible and we choose to stay on this Island for it's unique and beautiful environment. Please see important notes section below for further information.
Travel by speedboat to 'Survivor Island' and enjoy some beachside bliss at this idyllic getaway. Swim in the clear, turquoise waters or snorkel among colourful fish and sea turtles. Visit one of the nearby bubbling mud volcanoes or simply relax on one of Borneo's white-sand beaches. Take a boat trip to Snake Island, a breeding ground for the yellow-lipped sea krait.
Today is free to enjoy your desert island
Return to Borneo's mainland and stay at a seaside guesthouse. There are plenty of optional activities on offer here - why not picnic on a nearby island, soak up some sun on the beach or hire a kayak to explore the coastline before the tour ends.
The tour finishes today after breakfast and you are free to leave at any time.
