Here’s an incredible 10-day tour fit for the adrenaline junky, wino, wildlife and nature lover. For those looking to experience the best of the best, Salty Crax has perfected the itinerary offering a full exploration of Cape Town and the Garden Route. 

Your first few days are spent exploring the city and all of the wonderful things it has to offer. Perfect for history buffs or those looking to learn about the rich history of Cape Town, a walking tour of the city is a great addition to this itinerary. If sitting back and exploring the sites from the top of a bus is your thing, opt-in on a hop-on-hop-off bus tour. 

Sightseeing continues on a tour of the Western Cape. From an optional trip to see the Cape Fur seals to a visit to the historic lighthouse at Cape of Good Hope, you’ll see the most iconic seascapes of this part of Africa. 

Later, enjoy a visit to a township where you’ll meet locals and learn about their history and Xhosa culture. From here, visit a number of wineries and taste the local wines, ports, cheeses, and chocolates. Stopping off at Franschhoek, a French-style village, you may pop into the quaint shops and world-class restaurants. 

For adventurers, a number of adrenaline rush activities are in store. From cage diving with Great White Sharks to ziplining through the forest; from bungee jumping to whale watching, the options are there for you to choose! 

This trip also includes an amazing drive of the Garden Route, a visit to Wilderness and overnights in towns like Sedgefield, Jeffrey’s Bay, and Oudtshoorn. Enjoy surfing, meeting orphaned elephants, and watching the Big 5 in their natural habitats. 


Day 1: Arrival and Orientation

Welcome to South Africa! You'll be picked up from the Cape Town airport and brought to the 5-star SaltyCrax Backpackers. 

After your arrival you'll have a chance to explore the area and the beach, shops, bars and restaurants. 

Tonight, meet your fellow travelers and enjoy a braai (traditional South African BBQ).

Day 2: Cape Town Exploration

After breakfast at the hostel, head out to discover the vibrant city of Cape Town. Today you'll have two options to choose from:

  • Walking Tour - Take a walking tour and visit the historical sites of Cape Town. Explore the Castle of Good Hope and the Grand Parade. Make a visit to the Parliament Buildings and the District Six Museum where you will learn about life under the apartheid. Shop for souvenirs, African Arts & Crafts at Greenmarket Square and St. George's Mall. 
  • Hop On Hop Off Bus Pass - Atop a double decker bus, visit all the hot-spots including Camps Bay, Table Mountain and V&A Waterfront. 

Day 3: Western Cape Tour

Today you'll head out to Hout Bay, a lively town with beautiful colorful fishing boats anchored in the harbour. You'll have a choice to visit Duiker Island, the home of thousands of Cape Fur seals (not included), before visiting Chapman's Peak. This beautiful drive winds around the Peninsula offering breathtaking views. 

At the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, walk along the stone paths to a historic lighthouse. Marvel at the crashing waves as they roll into shore. 

Tonight you'll head to Stellenbosch and the winelands where you'll spend the night.

Day 4: Wine, Cheese & Chocolate

After a delicious breakfast, your guide will take you through beautiful Kayamandi Township where you'll meet local residents and learn about The Struggle and Xhosa culture. 

Following this heartwarming experience, you'll visit a number of wineries where you'll taste local wines, port, cheese, and chocolates. 

Enjoy today's lunch in Franschhoek, a French-Style village filled with little shops and world-class restaurants. 

After lunch, travel to the meeting place of the Indian and Atlantic oceans, Cape Agulhas, where you'll spend the night. 

Day 5: Great White Sharks!

Get ready for an incredible experience today with an early rise. Today you'll go cage diving with Great White Sharks! While this excursion is not included in the cost, it's one you will not want to miss! 

If you choose not to join this excursion, you may opt to visit Hermanus, a chill town that is well known as the best whale watching spot in the world!

Moving on, you'll visit Betty's Bay, a coastal village home to thousands of penguins! Later, you'll head back to Cape Town along Clarence Drive, a picture-perfect drive. 


Day 6: Garden Route

Head out towards the Garden Route today, as well as, the popular area of Wilderness. Discover 18km of beaches, five lakes, five rivers, and two estuaries. This protected National Park is stunningly beautiful and not one to be missed. 

At Wilderness, you can canoe on the Wilderness Lagoon and bird watch. 

Later, you'll travel to the town of Sedgefield where your accommodations are situated along Myoli Beach. Take a dip in the Indian Ocean and enjoy a beach bonfire. 

Day 7: Knysna & Garden Route

Stopping off at Knysna Heads, grab this opportunity to snap some great photos! Nearby you'll have a chance to take a truly thrilling experience, bungee jumping at the world's highest bungee bridge jump. The 216m jump is optional, and perfect for the adrenaline junkie!

Bring your blood pressure down with a visit to Tsitsikamma National Park. Walk forest trails, a suspension bridge, and find a quiet spot. 

Get ready for another amazing optional activity, ziplining. You'll travel along gorges, above water, and through the forest. Finish today at Jeffreys Bay, a surfer's paradise, and your home for the next two nights.  

Day 8: National Parks & Game Drive

Visit the Big 5 Addo Elephant National Park, a haven for wild elephants that survived the culling in the early 20th century. Elephant numbers are now in the hundreds, due largely to the conservation efforts of the National Parks Board. 

Enjoy a 2-hour game drive where you'll search for the big 5 as they roam around in their natural habitat. 

Later, embark on a surf or relaxation in Jeffrey's Bay. 

Day 9: Ostrich Farm & Caves

Today you'll have the hilarious experience of visiting an ostrich farm. Learn about the world's largest bird, take pictures, and get to know Betsie, the world's friendliest ostrich. 

Later, visit the Cango Caves, a wonderland of caves, passageways, chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites. You'll spend the night in Oudtshoorn!

Day 10: Cango Wildlife Ranch

Start off today with a visit to the elephant orphanage where you will learn about the animals and have a chance to interact with them. 

Later, visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch, where you'll visit with endangered animals and participate in the conservation of over 60 different species. Meet white lions, cheetah, hippos, birds and other animals. 

Head back to Cape Town and snap photos of the towering mountains, windy roads, vineyards, orchards with a pitstop at a pub in the middle of nowhere!
