About this program

Take a fascinating look at life in Central America as you journey for 10 weeks across 5 countries. Amidst your adventures, you’ll take part in a teaching or conservation project. 

You’ll start your adventure off in the bustling city of Mexico City. The sheer size will amaze you, and all of the unique neighbourhoods will capture your imagination. As you explore the city, you’ll be rewarded with ancient Aztec ruins under the city, incredible architecture, and distinct Mexican flavors. 

You will then arrive into Guatemala where you’ll visit the famous ruins of Tikal, embark on a boat tour of San Pedro La Laguna, and explore the colonial city of Antigua. Delight in the experience of sipping coffee from a roadside cafe, surrounded by the magic of the city. 

Honduras boasts towering ruins for you to explore and warm thermal pools to soak your tired muscles. You may have the opportunity to volunteer at a local school here before heading to the coast and a diving paradise!

Then, the cobblestone streets of Leon, Nicaragua invite you to explore this historic town. You may visit wonderful museums, galleries, and even have the thrilling experience of volcano-boarding!

Finally, you will arrive in Costa Rica, where you’ll likely partake in volunteer placements in either teaching or with big cats, primates and turtle conservation. You’ll enjoy the thrilling experience of giving back in one of the world’s most eco-friendly countries.

Itinerary

What to Expect: Mexico

Mexico: Your trip will begin in Mexico City where you'll explore this enormous city. It's a city of layers, rich history, and incredible museums, galleries, and so much more. 

You'll move on to San Cristobal where you'll visit markets filled with unique crafts. 

Then you will visit Palenque and nearby villages. You'll visit the Mayan ruins surrounded by monkeys, dense jungle and waterfalls at Agua Azul & Misol-ha.

What to Expect: Guatemala

Guatemala: After Mexico, you'll head to Guatemala where your adventure continues. You'll start in Tikal where you will learn about the ancient Mayan empire. 

Moving on, you'll see San Pedro La Laguna, where you'll take a boat tour, rent kayaks and enjoy the sun on this huge lake. Hike around and then relax in the hot springs. 

Finally, in Antigua, you'll enjoy delicious coffee and explore this UNESCO heritage city. Visit Pacaya, the most active volcano, and walk to the top of the highlands. 

What to Expect: Honduras

Honduras: After your arrival in Honduras, you'll visit the Mayan ruins in Copan, and enjoy some rest and relaxation in the warm thermal pools. Head out with your travel mates and dance at a hilltop disco! Horse-back ride with a local farmer and enjoy ziplining through the tall trees!

You will then start a volunteer program at a local school where you will assist with teaching disadvantaged children. You'll assist with classes, lead your own, help with activities, duties around the school and with the community. On the weekends you may be able to explore the cloud forests or traditional beach communities. 

In Utila, you'll visit a diving paradise and an ideal place to complete your PADI dive training (additional cost applies). You can also go on a day trip to a deserted island and a barbecue on the beach. 

What to Expect: Nicaragua

Nicaragua: You'll start your visit to Nicaragua in Leon, an exciting city where you can still feel the history of the revolution. Stroll down the cobblestone streets with beautiful murals telling stories of the heroes of the revolution. Visit the museums and art galleries that hold treasures found nowhere else on Earth. You may also go Volcano-Boarding, an exciting excursion down soft ash. 

In Granada, you'll explore this beautiful colonial town, walk down tree-lined streets, listen to street musicians, and visit the volcanic islands of Ometepe. 

Then, head to San Juan del Sur and catch a wave or two!

What to Expect: Costa Rica

Costa Rica:  You'll take part in two placements in Costa Rica amounting to 4 weeks. Volunteer with teaching and then with Big Cats, Primates & Turtle Conservation which is very engaging!
