Echidna Walkabout was formed in 1992 by Janine Duffy and Roger Smith with the desire to showcase the natural and cultural wonders of Australia.
The social enterprise travel & tour operation has the mission to protect and conserve Australian wildlife, while positively promoting Indigenous culture. Echidna Walkabout employs aboriginal people as guides wherever possible, and make a point to visit aboriginal-run keeping places.
Each tour includes a conservation action. So no matter how long your itinerary, whether a day or multi-day, you, the traveller, will have an opportunity to make an impact the environment in a positive way. The conservation action ranges from 5 minutes to 30 minutes and can include activities such as light weeding, bagging discarded fishing nets, and helping a guide with data collection. The activities are designed to be quick, fun, and easy!
While on tour, Echidna Walkabout contributes to the data collection of wildlife sightings which is provided to local Atlases. They have consistently shown local communities the importance of their native wildlife, and provide education to these communities regarding how best to protect it.
Echidna Walkabout supports several non-profit organizations, including Koala Clancy Foundation.
