About this program

Venture on a 9-day voyage that gives you an introduction to all that the Arctic can offer.

As you hike and explore the Arctic tundra, watch for reindeer, walrus and even enjoy a Polar Bear safari! Each day, you’ll have the opportunity to watch presentations from the expedition team on the ship, and then observe wildlife on land. The Arctic presents an enormous amount of incredible photo opportunities, experience continuous daylight, take a zodiac ride, and delight in the breathtaking landscapes and scenery. If Mother Nature permits, enjoy a kayaking excursion through the isolated inlets of Spitsbergen, or snowshoeing trip in Smeerenburg.

Your itinerary for the 7 days on board will be determined by the weather and ice, so no two trips are exactly alike. That said, you will no doubt have the thrilling experience of a lifetime. Don’t forget your camera, you will not want to miss any opportunity to snap a photo of this inspiring scenery!

Day 1: Embarkation Day in Longyearbyen, Norway

You'll start your adventure in Longyearbyen, the largest settlement on the island. As you board your ship, enjoy the incredible views of the mountainous landscape that is the backdrop of this seaside village.

Days 2 to 8: Exploring Spitsbergen

Over the next 7 days, you'll cruise around this picturesuqe island, consistenly searching for wildlife. The expedition takes you all over wester Spitsbergen, through dramatic fjords and the islands to the north.

Explore the polar flora and vast glaciers, where you'll soon discover how diverse the landscape is, as well as the wildlife.

There is no fixed itinerary for these days, as the varying weather and ice can impact the route; however, you'll see some of the favorite destinations, including the 14th of July Glacier, Alkefjellet, Hinlopen Strait and Smeerenburg.

All destinations are chosen based on locations for optimal wildlife sightings, history, and the geology of Spitsbergen. Hornsund is one of the preferred hunting areas for polar bears, so views are almost guaranteed.

Watch for walrus in Poolepynton, and make sure to take loads of photographs! The overwhelming sounds of these giants is something pretty unique to see!

If you're keen to see a more up-close view of the arctic landscapes, take an optional kayak excursion where you can explore isolated pockets of Spitsbergen.

In Smeerenburg, take an optional snowshoeing excursion if the weather permits! This is an incredible experience. You can visit a memorial that was erected in 1906. The site honors the whalers who were lost in the 17th and 18th centuries while they worked in the extreme arctic conditions. S

The arctic tundra is a stunning display of scenery and landscapes. You'll be surprised by the wildflowers that bloom in the summertime, and that each day you see something completely new and exciting.

Day 9: Depart Longyearbyen

Today you'll depart from Longyearbyen where you'll be transported to the airport for your flight home or to your next destination!
