Venture to Peru and join an Amazon Jungle Adventure. As you trek through the jungle, you’ll explore local villages, watching the wildlife go about their days in their natural habitat.
You’ll start your adventure in Iquitos, where you’ll take a speedboat on a 3-hour ride along the Amazon River to reach your jungle lodge, and home for the duration of your adventure. After you arrive, take a trip to Lake Sapote where you’ll keep a keen eye out for several species of birds and monkeys. Then, in the evening, enjoy a night safari where you’ll watch out for caimans, birds, and other mammals.
Throughout the journey, enjoy jungle hikes observing wildlife, stunningly beautiful flowers and plantlife, and giant ceiba trees. Take boat rides on river and watch the river wildlife that surrounds you. At night, enjoy walks in search of large frogs and nocturnal jungle animals.
Get an early start on Day 3 on an adventure to Lagoon Casha. The lagoon is tough to access but will thrill you with its abundance of birds and monkeys. Then, on day 4, take an early breakfast followed by a nature hike in the jungle where you’ll explore local villages and be fully immersed in nature. Enjoy a picnic lunch and continue your trek through the jungle.
On the final day of your expedition, you’ll have the experience of a lifetime. This is your chance to swim close to pink and gray dolphins. After lunch, watch for wild animals before taking a boat back to Iquitos.
Please arrive in Iquitos before 9:00 am today. Upon arrival to Iquitos, you will be picked up at the airport or a hotel and transferred to the office. Make last-minute arrangements and then head off to the port for a 3-hour speedboat ride on the Amazon River. Upon arrival to the jungle lodge, you will have time to get settled in and then enjoy a delicious traditional buffet lunch.
Enjoy a fun afternoon boat trip to Lake Sapote where you can see heaps of different bird species such as parrots, jacanas, kingfishers, herons, panguanas, partridges, pigeons, cormorants and horned screamers. Continue to Moena lagoon to see monkeys, squirrels and sloths, then watch the sunset over the forest before heading back to the lodge for dinner. Take an evening boat safari to see nocturnal animals such as caimans and birds.
Rise early and have breakfast before heading out on a Leoncito Hike, where you can awe at the immense variety of flora around the lodge. Taste therapeutic water that is captured inside the vines of the Uncaria tomentosa plant (cat's claw) which is rumoured to cure cancer and AIDS. Marvel at the giant Ceiba trees in the area and search for the pygmy marmoset, the world’s smallest monkey. If you’re lucky you’ll have the chance to see squirrel and tamarin monkeys. Listen for the noisy roar of the howler monkey that can be heard up to several kilometres away.
Return to the lodge for lunch and then take a boat trip to the Purura and Corrientes lakes where you can go fishing. Try catching the famous carnivorous piranha. Search for the colourful Hoatzin bird among strangler vines and millions of jungle trees. Have dinner back at the lodge and then go out on another night hike in search of giant frogs and harmless tarantulas.
Have an early breakfast before your morning boat trip to the secluded Lagoon Casha which depending on water levels can be a challenging destination. Walk or row in towards the lake, looking for different species of birds and monkeys. Enjoy lunch back at the lodge followed by an afternoon excursion to Lake Juanachi in canoes for a more close-up look at animals and monkeys.
Return to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest.
Have breakfast this morning and then embark on a 5-hour hike to see native flora and fauna in the vicinity. Have an outdoor picnic lunch amidst the pristine Amazon Jungle at Black Waters Creek and keep an eye out for small visitors. Visit the local village of San Juan de Yanayacu and mingle with the villagers, buy handicrafts made from seeds or vegetable ivory or start an impromptu soccer game.
Have dinner back at the lodge and take your last nighttime canoe trip to soak up the sounds of the jungle and glimpse your last nocturnal animals.
Enjoy breakfast on the boat this morning while cruising along the Amazon River. Experience a magical moment of swimming alongside pink and gray river dolphins (no touching allowed). See the Victoria Regia, the world’s largest aquatic plant on your way back to the lodge. Have a buffet lunch and then hop back on the boat for a 3-hour ride back to Iquitos.
You will be dropped off at a hotel or airport where your trip will come to an end. Please plan to fly out of Iquitos after 6 pm.
