About this program

Take a wild adventure to South Africa and enjoy the freedom of a self-guided tour of Johannesburg & Kruger National Park.

You’ll start your journey in Johannesburg where you’ll take a transfer to your accommodation for the next few days. The first night is at your leisure with loads of opportunities to explore the surrounding areas. Then, the next day, you may choose from two walking tours to explore the city in depth. Enjoy the rest of your day freely!

On Day 3, you’ll wake up early and catch a ride to Kruger National Park where you’ll embark on a game drive! You’ll watch for some of Africa’s iconic wildlife as they gracefully cross over the African plains. Later, you’ll enjoy another game drive at sunset watching the bright colours dance across the sky. Catch a few glimpses of the nocturnal animals as they make their way out.

For the next few days, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Kruger National Park, through a number of game drives. Capture the magic on camera! Safari drives start early in the morning, in order to make the most of the day. In the evenings, enjoy campfires and wonderful cuisine!

After your adventures in Kruger, you’ll head back to Johannesburg for a night before setting off home or on to your next destination!

Day 1: Arrive Johannesburg

Today you will be picked up at the Johannesburg airport upon arrival and transferred to your accommodation for check-in. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to relax, explore, and get settled in.

Overnight in Johannesburg.

Day 2: Johannesburg Walking Tour

This morning you will make your way to the walking tour meeting point at Park Station, a 10 minute walk from your accommodation. You can choose from two different city walking tours: The City Centre Tour and The Braamfontein Tour.

City Center Tour: Starts at park station daily departing at 10:30 am and 13:00 pm. The tour is 1 hr30min long. Guests are shown African traders and Ghost Skyscrapers, the Mining history of Johannesburg and Nelson Mandela Diagonal. Our CEO's (Chief entertainment officers) will take the guests to Park Station.

Braamfontein Tour: This tour starts every day at 15:30. This is a tour of the trendy cafes and new re-gentrified architecture. Visit the University Of Witwatersrand, a beach bar and a view of the street art.

Day 3: Johannesburg to Kruger Park

Today you will be picked up at a pre-determined meeting point in Johannesburg between 6:00 - 8:00am. Travel for about 6 hours through the Highveld and Lowveld areas and admire the wide open African bush and scenic landscapes. We will make a stop for lunch (not included) before reaching Kruger National Park in the afternoon.

Get settled into your accommodation and then grab your camera for your first game drive around sunset. A shared sunset game drive will allow you the chance to see nocturnal animals with a Kruger Park ranger in a Kruger vehicle. This game drive is shared and there will be other guests on the drive.

Return to camp for a three-course meal under the stars served with a glass of wine. If you prefer alternative snacks or drinks, you can purchase them at the camp store. Get a good night’s rest and recharge your batteries for an exciting day ahead!

Days 4 & 5 - Kruger National Park

Safaris are all about early mornings, getting out there and seeing animals! After an early wake-up call (the time varies according to the seasons and park gate opening times) we have tea or coffee & muffins. Your morning safari will last about 3-4 hours with a knowledgeable guide who will explain interesting facts about the park and animal behaviour.

Return to camp for a midmorning breakfast/brunch and then relax for a while. Take advantage of your free time to take a nap, go swimming, visit the park shop, or take a walk around the camp. In the afternoon you will take another game drive to spot more wild animals and big game. Return to the camp this evening for a rewarding and delicious dinner and stories around the campfire under the starry night sky.

All safari game drives are conducted in a 4x4 open-sided vehicle for the best wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities. The vehicles have a roof to protect passengers from sun and light rain.

Day 6: Kruger Park - Johannesburg

Today we will say goodbye to the fabulous Kruger Park on our last morning game drive and our last chance to spot the elusive animals we didn’t see during our trip. Have breakfast back at camp and then make the 6-hour drive back to Johannesburg today passing through the Lowveld and Highveld with beautiful scenery.

We recommend guests to plan on sleeping overnight in Johannesburg tonight. You will be dropped off at a pre-determined meeting point.

Day 7: Johannesburg Free Day

Enjoy a full free day to rest up, recover, and explore Johannesburg on your own. Overnight in Johannesburg.
