About this program

Do you love to scuba dive? Make a career change into marine conservation and impact marine ecosystems in the Seychelles.

Join GVI on a 24-week internship and learn about the conservation efforts in this area while receiving your PADI Divemaster certification! You will participate in recovery research and coral reef monitoring, fisheries and invertebrate surveys, sea turtle breeding research, as well as the development of an awareness and environmental education program!

In your free-time, hike up Cap Matoopa or take a dive just for fun!

GVI Internship programs focus on the development of professional skills while providing a well-rounded conservation experience. Participants are provided with a mentor who will monitor the progress on a weekly basis and be a professional reference after successful completion of the program.

Life on the Internship

Your First 12 Weeks:

During your expedition phase expect working days to be long and starting early in the morning.

Diving days will begin with preparing the dive boat, followed by a short journey to one of the research dive sites. Depending on weather conditions, we aim for everyone to have 1 or 2 dives/snorkels a day, 5 days a week, during which you will conduct underwater surveys after completion of your training.

On other days, you should expect to be involved in additional projects and activities, including:

  • Training sessions
  • Beach cleans
  • Marine debris surveys
  • Environmental education sessions
  • Alternative income training with the local community depending on local and project needs at the time.
