Spend 3 weeks discovering the diverse landscapes of Australia. Along the way you’ll see some of their iconic wildlife, special ecosystems, and learn about the rich Aboriginal Culture. Travel from the coastal wilderness, through rainforests to the Great Ocean Road and finally the dry desert Outback.
Travelling from the North to the South, you’ll visit a variety of special locations. Some highlights include:
This 21-day tour is completely customizable and can be broken down into 7 or 15 days depending on what you wish to see. With opportunities to capture on camera some of the world’s most recognizable and exotic wildlife, you’ll enjoy an adventure unlike any other!
You'll be picked up early this morning from your Darwin accommodation and set off east to the tropical outback. Along the way you will stop at a number of incredible places, including Fogg Dam. Here, you'll take a walk through the monsoon forest and have a chance to see some of the wonderful variety of bird life.
You'll enter Kakadu National Park and stop at Mamukala Wetland and enjoy a walk.
You'll first access the Arnhem Land escarpment and the Nourlangie today. You'll visit several impressive places in the region including the Nanguluwur Rock Art, Anbangbang, and the Nourlangie Rock Art site. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Anbinik.
Take a rest before heading into the bush to watch the incredible sunset over the Kakadu escarpment. This time of day offers a spectacular scene as tens of thousands of bats take flight.
Today, take the wonderful Bardedjilidji Sandstone Walk, an East Alligator River Cruise (optional), as well as a visit to the Ubirr Rock Art Site.
As the heat picks up in the day, you'll return to Jabiru for a rest, then enjoy the afternoon near Iligadjarr Wetlands and a walk through the woods along the freshwater floodplain.
Travel west today from Kakadu to Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge along the Mary River National Park. Alon the way, you'll stop at several special places. Watch for dingoes and kangaroos!
Finish today at Point Stuart Wilderness Lodge, and enjoy a walk through the Jimmy Creek rainforest.
Today is an exciting opportunity to explore Mary River, which is famous for its variety of wildlife including some of the largest crocodiles in the world. You'll have the wonderful chance to see crocodiles in their natural habitat, viewing them from a specially designed boat to view them and other wildlife.
Later, you'll travel north to the spot where the Mary River becomes a sprawling delta and massive floodplain.
Head out for a wildlife walk in the bush at Bird Billabong in the Mary River National Park. This large wetland sees thousands of birds move through when the surrounding area dries after the monsoon season.
This is a major highlight on the wildlife tour.
After a light walk in the morning, you'll catch a flight to Melbourne.
You'll depart early this morning from Melbourne to Mildura. You'll stop at the meeting place of two of Australia's greatest rivers, the Murray and the Darling. The remainder of the day you'll enjoy on walks in the region watching for wildlife and birds along the rivers and billabongs.
You'll rise early this morning and head to Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. You'll enjoy the morning here and can enjoy the plethora of bird life. Hattah Kulkyne is home to a large number of reptiles, snakes, and lizards.
After enjoying lunch beside the lake, you'll travel north to Lake Mungo in the Willandra Lakes World Heritage Area and the desert.
Wake up early before the sunrise and explore the ancient shoreline of the dry Lake Mungo. This time of day yields loads of wildlife including parrots, kangaroos, emus, and cockatoos. You'll return to the lodge for brunch and meet your Aboriginal Guide who helps to explain the culture of the region.
You'll drive across the dry bed of Lake Mungo to Lunettes which are curved by the wind. You'll travel through 50,000 years of Aboriginal History starting at the lake bed and travel high into the dunes. You'll pass through 4 different ecosystems ranging from dry lakebeds into rich sandy bush country.
Today you may enjoy an early morning walk before enjoying a final breakfast at the lodge. You'll depart from Lake Mungo to the Mildura Airport where you will fly out to the next part of the itinerary!
Take a walk through a national park watching for all sorts of wildlife including wild koalas, cockatoos, and kookaburras. You will learn about koala behavior and individuality of each koala from your wildlife guide and koala researcher.
Walk carefully and quietly up to mobs of wild kangaroos in the open plains.
Today you'll see some of the most breathtaking coastal scenery in the world. You'll follow the Great Ocean Road to the powerful surf coast, then walk in the lush rainforests of Otway National Park.
Later, travel through Port Campbell National Park, watching for echidnas, birds, lizards and other wildlife. Visit the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge.
After a wonderful last look at the coast, you'll visit the top of an extinct volcano. The view is stunning as you look across the plains. At the summit, you will see some of the hundreds of volcanic lakes across the plains.
Later, you'll pass Lake Corangamite, the largest permanent lake in Australia. The area is abundant with birdlife.
You'll return to Melbourne later this afternoon.
Today is yours to explore Melbourne. You have the option of taking a birding tour at Western Treatment Plant.
Today, travel past the RAMSAR Wetlands of the Lakes District of East Gippsland before embarking on a ferry to an island sanctuary. The wetlands are home to an abundant colony of wild Koalas. Enjoy a walk through the forest watching for these animals in the wild. You may also see Echidnas, Wallabies, Kangaroos, Parrots, Honeyeaters, and more!
After breakfast, travel into the mountain forests of East Gippsland. You'll see both dry and wet forests, visit Snowy River and walk beside a wilderness creek. The landscape is known to change dramatically from the sunny, dry slopes, to the rainforest. Your guide will provide information about the plants and animals of the area.
Enjoy a walk in the rainforest searching for birds and wallabies. You'll then head through a heathland and walk along a forest-lined river to the estuary. Watch for all types of bird life and goanna lizards! Visit a quiet beach with a dune system and watch the beach and ocean-going birds.
Enjoy lunch and a walk. Later you'll spend some time on a beach removing old fishing nets. Enjoy dinner overlooking the beach.
Today you'll set off east away from Snowy River. You'll stop at a large rainforest on the Bemm River, and later, a very different rainforest on the Thurra River.
Later today you will arrive at Gipsy Point in the Croajingolong National Park.
Today you can expect to visit the spectacular forest, lake, and river systems of Mallacoota Inlet. In the evening, you'll venture to a secluded river where you may have a chance to see a platypus!
Enjoy a boat cruise along a hidden river that feeds the Mallacoota Inlet. You'll watch for white-bellied sea-eagles, azure kingfishers, and gippsland water dragons.
Today is your last day. You'll take short flight to Sydney or Melbourne. If time permits before your flight, you can take a bush walk near Gipsy Point.
