Wake up to the sound of a lion’s roar as the sun rises over the African plains. Explore the infamous Kruger National Park and the wildlife that call in home, while gaining field skills and learning about the identification of the animals and their behaviors, local history, plant life and even astronomy facts.
GVI’s Under-18 programs are crafted to give teens an in-depth volunteer experience along with adventure and the chance to acquire new skills. Parents and guardians can rest assured that teens will have a high level of supervision from qualified staff, while teens dive into new experiences, make new friends and make a difference!
Once you’ve arrived at your base camp you’ll get a chance to meet fellow volunteers and GVI staff from around the globe before learning about African wildlife conservation and heading out into the bush. Over the next few days, you will learn about animal identification and behaviour, as well as how to track animals and navigate your way in the bush. Most importantly, you will learn about how the African ecosystems work and receive real life insight into subjects like geology, local history, soils, plant life and the climate. If learning new bush skills, making new life-long friends and making yourself better equipped to tackle your education is not enough, this trip will give you the amazing opportunity of experiencing an stunning bush sleepover, where you will be able to truly appreciate the stars in the southern skies while the sounds of the night carry you away to dreamland. The weekend will be packed with trips, including a visit to the world famous Kruger National Park, where you may spot the sought after big 5 (rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard and elephant).
